Costs

Here is an overview of prospective costs for our adoption & what has been paid so far.  It is good to know exactly where all of the money is going.

Ethiopia Adoption Program Fees
Application Fee - $500 (Due with completed adoption application. Includes orientation to the Ethiopia program, contract signing, file set up and administration costs) PAID
WSA Agency Fee - $5,000 (Due upon receipt of & approval of Home Study.  This fee includes all of West Sands Adoptions stateside agency services, domestic coordination fee, home study review, dossier preparation services, matching/child referral services, travel coordination, license maintenance and program expansion costs) PAID (owe $2500 back from loan)
Document Authentication - $575 (Due upon completion of dossier.  This fee is for the preparation & bundling of your dossier, preparation of signed & notarized cover pages, document authentication services at State & Federal levels & Ethiopian Embassy & preparing copies for Ethiopia.) PAID
Foreign Program Fee - $8,500 (Due upon acceptance of child referral.  The in-country program fee includes orphanage projects, operational support to licensed orphanages, foreign license maintenance, program costs & Humanitarian Support Projects.) PAID
Final Processing Fee - $1,200 (Due upon upon acceptance of referral.  This fee includes in-country representation, foreign office maintenance, dossier translations, document registration, court fees, child birth certificate and passport, authentication fees, initial medical exam fees, and child background verification.) PAID
Post Adoptive Report Deposit - $700 per child (Due upon receipt of Approved Home Study.  This fee is refunded to us upon completion & submittal of all 3 post adoptive reports to West Sands.) PAID

Additional Ethiopia Fees
Each Additional Sibling - $5,500 (Due upon acceptance of child referral) PAID
Foster Care during Transition - $750/child (Due at time of travel for 2nd Trip. RAISED This fee covers the cost to care our child from the time after our court hearing to the time our child is approved by the U.S. Embassy & can come home.)
Estimated Ethiopia Travel Costs - $5,000+ per trip (2 Trips required - Including airfare, housing & food) RAISED

Out of Pocket Costs
Home Study - $1150 PAID
Post Adoptive Reports - $250 each (3 required)
10 Hour Hague Training - $149 PAID
Culture-Gram for child's country of origin - $4
Homeland Security for I-171H - $720 PAID
Homeland Security Biometrics/Fingerprinting Fee - $170 PAID
FedEx Fees for sending home study & dossier & any updates- $232 PAID
FedEx fees for sending dossier to international country - PAID
Homeland Security for child's US Visa - $230/child (Due 1st trip) RAISED
Official Birth Certificates - $77 PAID
Passport Photos - $32 PAID
Passports - $330 PAID
OH & FBI Background Check - $110 PAID
Updated OH & FBI Background Check - $110 (due to transfer HS agency)
Readoption Fees - est $1500 

There may be more fees as we go along.  I know it seems like a lot of money (and it is) but once you see it broken down, it's not as most people think & the country is not making a lot of money off of "selling" children.
